Details of the case cannot be revealed for legal reasons.
He was arrested in April, with the alleged offence said to have been committed a month earlier.
The Sun on Sunday reported in July how an unnamed ex-Premier League star was nicked at an airport in front of other passengers after flying into the UK.
Now that he has been charged and named by police, we can reveal it was Andy Carroll.

He was held shortly after getting off a flight at Stansted, following a journey from France.
Essex Police told The Sun on Sunday this week: “A man has been charged with breaching a non-molestation order. Andrew Carroll, 36, of Epping, was arrested on April 27 and the alleged offences relate to an incident in March. He is due to appear at Chelmsford magistrates’ court on December 30.”
A non-molestation order is an injunction issued by a civil court, usually aimed at preventing a person from going near another individual, address or both.
People who breach one, depending on the circumstances, can face criminal action resulting in a jail term of up to five years.
A source said at the time of Carroll’s arrest: “It seemed as if an issue was flagged up to the Border Force officers at passport control at Stansted, which led to police being called. He was questioned then taken away.
“It caused quite a kerfuffle as there were lots of other passengers around where he was arrested.”
Carroll is thought to be worth £25million, up from £19million in the Sunday Times Rich List 2019.
He returned to England over the summer, having left Bordeaux to play for National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge.
He had been on £80,000 a week at Liverpool, having cost £35million from Newcastle in 2011.
The striker also played for West Ham, Reading and West Brom, and won nine caps for England.
He married Towie TV star Billi Mucklow, 37, in 2022 but two years later, it was announced the couple were divorcing.
They have three children together, while Carroll has two others from a previous relationship.
Since 2024, he has been in a relationship with hairstylist Lou Teasdale.
