Leeds Now Eyeing Move to Sign ‘Sensational’ Serie A Striker for Daniel Farke

Leeds United are eyeing a January move to sign Lazio star Valentin Castellanos to aid their push for survival, according to Calciomercato.
The Whites have had a mixed campaign so far this year, and currently sit six points above the relegation zone after a recent run of good form, but face Liverpool and Manchester United in their first two games of 2026.
The team have struggled for goals regularly in this campaign, with 25 goals scored in their 18 games so far, and now Daniel Farke is keen to add more firepower to his squad to ensure they don’t return to the Championship at the first attempt.
Leeds Want to Sign Taty Castellanos
Castellanos, who has been described as ‘sensational’, has been a long-term target for Leeds in recent years, but the Argentina international has never seen a move to Elland Road materialise before.
In 2022 he headed to Girona instead, before moving to Lazio a year later, where he has registered 22 goals in 97 appearances since. But now Leeds are hopeful of finally convincing him to make the switch in January, with Farke keen to add more firepower to the side.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has cemented himself as the first-choice striker at the club, having scored in each of his last six games, while Felix Nmecha and Noah Okafor have also played up front on occasion in this campaign. Last season’s top scorer, Joel Piroe, has struggled for regular game time, and a January exit has been mooted, which could open the door for Castellanos.
However, Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri is not likely to sanction an exit in January before receiving assurances that he will be able to bring in a replacement for the second half of the Serie A campaign.
Leeds have made contact to find out the terms of a deal that would be necessary, and no further talks have been held yet, but it is something to pay attention to in January.
Leeds Need Goals for Safety
Calvert-Lewin has been the main source of goals so far this season with eight, but a lot of them have come in the most recent fixtures. After him, Nmecha has managed four goals and Anton Stach has managed three, showing the issues the squad ahs.
With the 49ers surely desperate to avoid relegation at the first attempt, bringing in someone with experience in Europe’s top five leagues and also with a decent scoring record would be a shrewd bit of business.
Lazio are clearly willing to do a deal at the right price, and now it depends on what other business can be done to see if they can get it over the line.
