Jennifer Garner’s Yellowknife breakfast spot of choice is Ricky’s

Golden Globe winner Jennifer Garner spent three hours in Yellowknife’s Ricky’s All Day Grill on Saturday, its owner said, and described the NWT capital as “awesome.”

The visit was an instant marketing win for the restaurant, which opened in the city’s Centre Square Mall last year. “See why even the stars choose Ricky’s,” the location declared on Facebook.

Satwant Dhillon, co-owner of Yellowknife’s Ricky’s, told Cabin Radio the restaurant’s staff figured out a celebrity diner had arrived on Saturday morning when other customers began taking photos.

“Most of the people were looking at her, that’s how we got to know,” said Dhillon, who confessed to not having seen any Garner movies herself – the likes of Pearl Harbor, Daredevil and Juno, alongside TV shows such as Alias.

“She was sitting here for like, three hours,” Dhillon added.

“I did talk to her. I introduced myself … I said how did she like Yellowknife? She said it’s awesome and she loved being here.”

In the age of AI, some residents expressed skepticism about the sighting, though the person in the photo published by Ricky’s has glasses identical to those worn by Garner in recent photos of her own. Other Yellowknifers reported sightings on the same day and shared selfies of their own.

Though Garner does have new projects on the way, none stick out as obvious candidates for an NWT trip. Her reason for the journey north appears to have been personal.

“She didn’t tell me,” said Dhillon, asked why the actress was in Yellowknife. “I asked her the reason and she [said] she’s just visiting. That’s all she said to me.

“She was so polite. She was just a really nice person.”

Yellowknife resident Trevor Bower was another resident to get a photo with Garner. He had been eating at Ricky’s at the time.

“I talked to her, John [Miller, her partner] and Jennifer’s mom,” Bower said.

“They were just up here for a couple days to visit Yellowknife because they have heard so much about it and they really wanted to see the northern lights.”
