Coronation Street reveals Carl’s sick bid to escape crash fallout

Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street villain Carl Webster unleashes a cruel new plan this week, as he desperately tries to frame his sister Debbie for their recent crash on a remote road. Carl is determined to avoid punishment for his drunken antics behind the wheel, but can he trick Debbie into believing that she was to blame?
The Websters were at the centre of the Corriedale crash carnage tonight, as Coronation Street crossed over with Emmerdale for the first time ever. Debbie climbed into a car with Carl in the hope that it’d thwart his plan to drive while heavily under the influence of alcohol. Sadly, Carl stuck to his guns by speeding off and crashing the vehicle, then moved Debbie into the driver’s seat when she was left unconscious at the scene.
In Tuesday’s scenes, Kevin Webster is furious to find Carl already hard at work when it comes to manipulating Debbie.
A concussed Debbie shows her concern at her brother’s bedside, as he shamelessly tries to convince her that she was driving the car when they crashed.

“Kevin knows this isn’t true and sees straight through Carl’s cruel new plan,” our Corrie source explains. “He immediately steps in and points out that Carl was driving, but Debbie may well have other ideas as her sibling’s future rests entirely in her hands.”
Later in the week, Kevin turns to his estranged wife Abi for support. He reiterates that Carl is guilty, but explains that Debbie is mysteriously lying to protect him.
When Debbie faces an official interview with the police, she sticks to Carl’s bogus story that he suddenly felt unwell and she took over at the wheel. However, Debbie could be landing herself in a whole world of trouble, as a blood test shows that she was over the limit at the time of the crash.
Meanwhile, the police also visit Carl in hospital and return his bag, which was found at the crash scene.

Carl’s horrified to find that his £18,000 in stolen cash has been switched for pieces of paper. He storms back to the street, hellbent on finding Abi and his missing money.
When Carl barges his way back into Abi’s flat, he orders her to return the cash as soon as possible. Abi unleashes her next nasty surprise, though, revealing that she no longer has it.
“Carl warns Abi that the money was Debbie’s,” our spy continues. “Unsure what to believe, Abi spies a chance to shame Carl in front of everyone at The Rovers – and they’re all shocked by what she has to say!
“When tempers boil over once again, Kevin lunges for Carl and peacemaker Ronnie is forced to step in to hold him back.”
There are clearly no hard feelings on Debbie’s part after the public chao – she even encourages Abi to start working at the garage again, as Kevin could do with the help. But does Debbie believe the latest allegations against Carl? And will she stick by her plan to take the fall for him?
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
