Snow, freezing rain impacts travel in Maine on Wednesday

PORTLAND (WGME) — The next round of winter weather is set to hit Maine with snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

Expect tricky travel conditions during the Wednesday morning commute.

There will be some developing sun to start on Tuesday before clouds thicken up on the back end of the day.

High temperatures will run seasonably cold in the 20s and low 30s.

A winter weather advisory will go into effect at 7 PM Tuesday night through 10 AM Wednesday morning.

Precipitation will begin as snow, dropping 3 to 6″ towards northern Maine.

Most snow and sleet accumulations will be in the mountains 2-4″ there. A coating to 2″ is expected for the coastal plain.

Ice through Wednesday morning.{ }(WGME)

As for ice, up to 0.15″ is possible at the coastal plain.

Due to the history of power outages over the past few weeks, scattered power outages cannot be ruled out.

Snow moves in late this evening as temperatures fall to the teens and 20s.

Snow, freezing rain, and rain will continue to fall early Wednesday morning.

A slippery Wednesday morning commute is very likely.

The afternoon commute will be much better on Wednesday with Thursday taking the crown as the nicest day this week. Look for lots of sun and high temperatures around 40 degrees.

Friday afternoon will be the next round of wet weather with rain. An additional round of mountain mix and rain is on tap for Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

A warmer-than-normal trend will return towards the middle of January across New England.
