Winter weather conditions bring feet of snow, opening day for some slopes

There is a winter weather warning in the Cascades until Thursday at 4 p.m. for dangerous pass travel.
The winter weather is bringing on feet of nonstop snow, causing slick and snowy roads. Traction tires are advised for travel through the passes right now, and you must have set of tire chains in your car at all times when driving through the pass, even if you have four-wheel-drive.
While the mountain passes may bring challenges, all the snow is a welcome sight to skiers and snowboarders.
“It’s beautiful man,” skier Andy Budd said. “Could not ask for a better day.”
Budd made his way to Alpental, in Snoqualmie, with two friends, on winter break from college, early Wednesday morning to hit the slopes on opening day.
The opening day was long awaited though, with proper conditions setting in later than normal.
“It’s definitely sad, less time, especially for us on break,” Mason Ward said.
For some, opening day came at the perfect time: the middle of the week when things are a little slower.
“So nobody has really touched any of the snow yet,” Ward said.
But overall, skiers and snowboarders said they are just happy it is finally here.
“I’m excited,” Ward said. “That’s it.”
