Spencer Pratt, who lost home in Palisades Fire, announces run for mayor of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Television personality Spencer Pratt, who lost his home in the Palisades Fire and has been a vocal critic in the months since of the city’s and state’s preparation for and response to the conflagration, announced Wednesday that he is running for mayor of Los Angeles.
Speaking at a “They Let Us Burn” rally held by the Palisades Fire Residents Coalition to mark the one-year anniversary of the fire’s start, the 42-year-old Pratt again repeated his complaints about authorities’ handling of the blaze, then earned cheers from the crowd when he announced plans to seek the mayor’s office.
“Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I’m done waiting for someone to take real action. That’s why I am running for mayor,” he said. “But let me be clear, this just isn’t a campaign — this is a mission, and we are going to expose the system. We are going into every dark corner of L.A. politics and disinfecting the city with our light.”
“L.A. is going to be camera-ready again,” he said.
A statement from Mayor Karen Bass’ campaign strategist, Douglas Herman, said:
“It’s no shock that in advance of his imminent book release, a reality TV ‘villain’ who once staged a fake divorce to boost ratings and spent the last summer spewing post-fire misinformation and disinformation to pump up his social media following, would now announce he’s running for Mayor.”

Pratt rose to fame in 2007 when he began dating “The Hills” cast member Heidi Montag, and eventually became a regular on the series. The couple married the following year, and they have two children.
He and Montag also appeared on shows including “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here” and the British version of “Celebrity Big Brother.”
