Jersey numbers carry serious weight in the NFL, but one rookie completely lost his mind at the negotiating table. Before Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams landed on the West Coast, he made a brief pit stop with the New York Jets, where a truly absurd locker room standoff took place.

Appearing on a recent episode of “Bussin’ With The Boys,” Adams recounted the hilarious exchange over his signature No. 17 jersey. When the veteran arrived in New York, a rookie wideout held the number. Adams figured a quick cash payout would easily seal the deal.
“I got 17,000 cash in my backpack and I’m thinking like this ain’t nothing crazy but certainly to give up your number as a rookie, like ain’t did [anything] yet,” Adams explained on the podcast. “It was like Week 6 and I think he played four plays at that point. Like you have no attachment to this right now.”

Adams even offered to buy new jerseys for Corley’s entire family. The rookie’s response?

“He said, ‘It’s great to have you big bro I can’t wait to learn from you, but I’m gonna need a million,'” Adams recalled.
Instead of entertaining the outrageous seven-figure demand, Adams simply bypassed the rookie and went straight to Jets owner Woody Johnson. Johnson promptly stripped the number from Corley and handed it directly to the All-Pro.
Adams eventually moved on to the Rams, where he continues to produce at a high level. Despite the off-field circus in New York, the veteran pass-catcher still put up solid numbers during the 2025 season. He finished the year pulling in 60 receptions for 789 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.
Adams left the drama and the delusional rookies behind in the Big Apple as he focuses on another playoff push.
