AJ McCarron to make picks for Birmingham Stallions in UFL Draft

Former Alabama All-American quarterback AJ McCarron is picking a quarterback for the Birmingham Stallions on Friday.
The United Football League is beginning its three-step draft process on Friday, starting with quarterbacks, as the spring circuit works toward the kickoff of its third season on March 27.
During the offseason, the UFL eliminated the general-manager position for each of its eight teams and switched to a centralized scouting and talent-acquisition system through the UFL Player Personnel Department.
McCarron will make the draft picks for Birmingham as the Stallions head coach. The former St. Paul’s Episcopal School All-State football and baseball selection followed Skip Holtz as Birmingham’s coach in December.
On Saturday, each of the league’s eight teams will choose up to three players from their allocated colleges. The regional system links each UFL team with college programs in its area. The league has not announced the college alliances.
The Friday quarterback selections and the Saturday allocated-college choices will be announced on Monday, in advance of the UFL Draft on Tuesday and Wednesday in Arlington, Texas.
Before the draft, each UFL team can reserve 12 players from its 2025 roster to retain for 2026. In the relocation of three of the league’s franchises since last season, the Columbus Aviators will have the roster of the Michigan Panthers, the Louisville Kings will have the roster of the Memphis Showboats and the Orlando Storm will have the roster of the San Antonio Brahmas.
The draft will include players who finished the 2025 season on UFL rosters on Tuesday and free agents who are not under contract with another league on Wednesday.
A lottery will determine the draft order. The draft will feature a snake-style selection system with the order inverting with each round. For example, the team that has the first pick in the first round will have the last pick in the second round and the first pick in the third round.
Each team will assemble a roster of up to 64 players for training camp next month.
