Andover To Mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day With Community-Wide Celebration Of Unity

ANDOVER, MA — The Town of Andover’s DEI Commission will host the community’s 19th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration on Monday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. at Andover Baptist Church, bringing together residents, faith leaders, musicians, and students for an evening centered on unity, shared values, and service.

This year’s theme, “United We Stand – Divided We Fall: Strength in Our Shared Faith and Common Humanity,” will frame a program that blends reflection, music, and civic engagement. The event will feature a keynote address by Patrick Tutwiler, an Andover resident who serves as Massachusetts Secretary of Education.

The celebration will include performances by the Andover High School Chamber Choir, the Choral Majority Gospel Choir, Rabbi Idan Irelander of Congregation Ahavat Olam with The Ahavat Ensemble, and a Gospel Jazz Ensemble. A recitation of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech will be delivered by Ralph Bledsoe.

The program will also spotlight youth through Community Connections, highlighting young people’s role in advancing Dr. King’s legacy of justice, inclusion, and civic responsibility.

Following the program, attendees are invited to a Unity Luncheon, offering an opportunity for conversation and fellowship across backgrounds and generations.

The event will take place at Andover Baptist Church, 7 Central St., and is open to all members of the community. Families, friends, and neighbors are encouraged to attend. Advance registration is requested through Eventbrite.
