SEPTA resumes Regional Rail morning express service; Center City T-trolley Tunnel reopens

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — SEPTA resumed services Monday for thousands of riders who take the Regional Rail morning express from the suburbs to Philadelphia and T-trolley routes through the Center City Trolley Tunnel.
The Center City T-trolley Tunnel reopened at 5 a.m. Monday, after failed upgrades that left riders stuck in the tunnel a few weeks ago.
Thousands of people usually take the T-trolley route through the tunnel every day when it’s open.
The Center City Trolley Tunnel is the underground portion of the SEPTA’s trolley lines, connecting Center City to West Philadelphia near the University of Pennsylvania’s campus.
The tunnel had been closed since mid-November for emergency repairs after crews installed a new part that ultimately caused additional damage to the infrastructure.

Another major re-addition for SEPTA riders on Monday morning is the Regional Rail morning express service from the suburbs to Center City.
It resumed Monday for the first time in months.
The transit agency has been gradually returning more of its Silverliner IV rail cars to service, following federally mandated inspections due to several fires.
The return of the Regional Rail Express is a major relief for riders who say the delays have made daily commutes a headache.
“A weight off my shoulders. It was making getting to work extremely difficult,” said rider Rashea Daniels. “Some people are trying to get to school, so it becomes an inconvenience. It just jams everything up.”
While the Center City Trolley Tunnel reopened on Monday, SEPTA officials said there will be overnight closures through February for additional repairs.
