Chicago police officer fires at suspect during traffic stop on Fifth Avenue on West Side

CHICAGO (WLS) — A Chicago police officer fired his gun at a suspect during a traffic stop on the West Side Monday morning, CPD said.
The incident occurred at about 12:38 a.m. in the 4700-West Fifth Avenue.

Police said officers conducted a traffic stop and saw a gun on the lap of a male suspect.
Police said an officer fired his gun during an encounter with the suspect.
No one was struck by gunfire but the suspect was treated at the scene by the Chicago Fire Department for minor lacerations caused by broken glass, police said.
Two officers were transported to the hospital for observation, police said.
The suspect was taken into custody and a gun was recovered, police said.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days.
