New Mexico’s US representatives sign on to Kristi Noem impeachment resolution

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico’s three U.S. representatives signed on to a resolution calling for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Democratic U.S. Reps. Melanie Stansbury, Teresa Leger Fernández and Gabe Vasquez were among over 70 members of Congress to cosponsor Illinois Democratic U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly’s resolution. Kelly introduced the resolution Wednesday.
The resolution raises three articles of impeachment – obstruction of Congress, violation of public trust and self-dealing. They call into question DHS allegedly not letting members of Congress into migrant detention facilities, the department’s use of taxpayer money and the direction of a contract and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s actions in U.S. cities.
“Americans deserve a DHS Secretary who is committed to enforcing our laws — including those that protect Americans’ civil liberties. Instead, Sec. Noem has systematically violated Americans’ rights and undermined their trust, directing masked agents to terrorize our communities and obstructing Congress,” Vasquez said.
ICE agents are accused of shooting multiple people, including in Minneapolis where Renee Good was shot and killed. Earlier this week, Leger Fernández stated she stood with Minnesota as she called for Noem’s resignation or impeachment.
The New Mexico Republican Party issued the following statement in response to Leger Fernández:
“Our ICE officers are removing criminals from American cities who are all in this country illegally. Democrats are fanning the flames of anti-American, anti-law enforcement propaganda as they are normalizing violence against law enforcement. Democrats, like many in our New Mexico delegation, couldn’t care less about the many families whose lives have been shattered at the hands of illegal immigrants but kick and scream when the same violent illegals are removed from our country. It’s despicable. We stand, unequivocally, with our ICE officers and with Secretary Noem.”
