A major winter snow storm has led to the widespread cancellations of events, and the closure of facilities, daycares, and schools across the GTA today.
Here is what you need to know about what is open and closed today.
City-run facilities and events
- Toronto Public Library branches had a delayed opening of 12:30 p.m. today and will close at 5 p.m.
- Most daycares run by the City of Toronto are open today but staffing challenges may impact operations. Centres within schools will not be open, the city said.
- All Toronto History Museums will be closed today.
- City of Hamilton offices are closed today due to the storm.
- Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath says tonight’s New Year’s Levee and Order of Hamilton ceremony will be cancelled.
- In Mississauga, city-run recreation and library programs will be cancelled until 3 p.m.

Tourist attractions
- The Toronto Zoo is closed today due to the severe weather conditions. “We are taking precautions for the safety and well-being of our animals, staff, volunteers, and guests,” the zoo said on its website.

- All school buses are cancelled and schools, as well as child care centres, are closed.
Peel District School Board
- All buses are cancelled and schools are all schools are closed.
Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board
- All schools are closed on Thursday.
York Region District School Board
- All buses are cancelled and schools are closed.
Toronto Catholic District School Board
- All schools are closed today. Bus transportation, child care centres, and before and after school programs located in schools will also be cancelled.
York Catholic District School Board
- All schools are closed today due to the inclement weather.
Durham District School Board
- All buses cancelled in all zones today due to the inclement weather but schools remain open.

- Buses have been cancelled in all zones but schools remain open.
Halton District School Board
- All buses are cancelled and school are closed.

- All schools are closed today due to the inclement weather.

All schools are closed this morning due to the winter storm.

- All U of T campuses are closed this morning due to the inclement weather.

- The Toronto and Brampton campuses, including libraries, will be cancelled this morning.

- The campus is closed this morning and all classes have been cancelled.

- The campus will remain open today but in-person classes will be switched to online learning where possible.
Mohawk College
- Campuses are closed today but virtual learning will continue.
Humber Polytechnic
- Classes will move to remote delivery today.
Centennial College
- The college is suspending on-campus operations and child care centres will be closed.
George Brown
- All campuses are closed this morning as well as child care centres.
OCAD
- The university campus in closed today. Classes will be held online.

- The campus is closed today due to the inclement weather.
