Northeast Ohio snow totals: Cleveland sets record for date; 19 inches falls in Geauga County
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The winter storm that moved through Northeast Ohio dropped temperatures and dumped plenty of snow, with a record amount recorded for the date in Cleveland.
The National Weather Service says 7.2 inches fell at Hopkins International Airport on Thursday. It smashed the previous record for Jan. 15 of 4.2 inches, set in 2004.

The amount did not break the top 10 for the biggest one-day snowfalls in the city’s history, the largest being 13.6 inches on Feb. 23, 1993.
Chagrin Falls had the largest amount of snow in Cuyahoga County with 16 inches. North Royalton, Brooklyn, Cleveland Heights and Parma all had 9 inches.
It’s no surprise the snow belt took the biggest hit, where 19 inches was recorded in Russell Township in Geauga County. Hambden Township had 13 inches and Chardon 12 inches.
Pierpont Township in Ashtabula County had 14 inches of snow. In Lake County, Madison led the way with 15 inches and Concord Township had 11 inches.
Northeast Ohio is expected to get a break from the snow overnight, but there is a 60% chance of snow showers Friday. Little accumulation is expected and temperatures will reach the mid-30s. Wind gusts could be around 26 mph.
