Arsenal are understood to have scouted the teenager – who is attracting interest from other top European clubs.
The Gunners want to add a young and versatile defender to their squad, but may want until the summer to do so.
Valdepenas is an attractive option as he is able to play at left-back or in the heart of defence.
The teenager made his Real Madrid debut at left-back against Alaves last month and played 78 minutes before coming off.

Valdepenas’ team-mates signed his shirt and he revealed after that it will be framed and hung in his bedroom.
He told Realmadrid TV: “It’s a dream, every child’s dream.
“I’ve been dreaming about it since I started playing football. It’s impossible to explain how I feel.”
Arsenal may find it hard to get Valdepenas out of Real Madrid, who view him as an exciting young talent.

Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet is another player Arsenal have previously watched in action.
The Gunners, however, have not firmed up their interest and Jacquet is currently in talks over a move to Chelsea.

Jacquet, 20, has made 16 Ligue 1 appearances this term and is believed to be rated at £60million.
That fee would surpass the club record £55m sale of Jeremy Doku to Manchester City in 2023.
The pair would have stiff competition at the Emirates if they made the move due to Arteta’s current options.
The manager already boasts Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, Benjamin White and Piero Hincapie, who can play in both centre-back and full-back roles.
