Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office orders crowd to disperse at Whipple Building

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is ordering protestors to leave the Whipple Building after they reportedly refused previous orders to stop blocking a road.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, they, along with other law enforcement agencies, have been working to get protesters to unblock an access road to the Whipple Federal Building.

However, the sheriff’s office said multiple orders were given for the “unlawful protest” to disperse and “explained what will happen if they do not comply with the lawful orders.”

The sheriff’s office said some protesters have thrown chunks of ice at vehicles, breaking windows.

“Individuals who do not comply with orders and those who continue unlawful behavior have been and will continue to be arrested,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please avoid the area.”

Protests at the Whipple Federal Building have been ongoing for weeks. As the main Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations site in the Twin Cities, the building has frequently seen anti-ICE protests.
