Chelsea have activated an option to recall Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.

The 20-year-old moved to Germany in August on a season-long agreement which included a break clause and that is now being utilised.

Chelsea are evaluating the centre-back market and their first decision has been to exercise a contractual right on Anselmino. He has gained Bundesliga and Champions League experience, enabling Chelsea to bring the Argentina youth international back and consider their next steps.

The west London side have the same possibility regarding fellow 20-year-old Mamadou Sarr, should they wish to utilise it.

The Senegal international is spending the campaign with Strasbourg, part of Chelsea’s ownership group.

All options are being kept open by the Club World Cup winners in this area of the squad as the winter transfer window enters its final week — but academy graduate Josh Acheampong, who has been linked with an exit, is expected to stay and a sale of the England Under-21 defender, 19, is viewed at Stamford Bridge as impossible.
