Gary Anderson has taken a flamethrower to influencers in darts and slammed it as a “load of b******s”
The Scottish star let rip at “absolute t*****s” following his first-round win over Niels Zonneveld at the Wimmau World Masters.
Anderson had a tricky time getting past the Dutchman in a deciding set, but seemed even more troubled after the game over a growing infestation of social-media influencers.
The Tartan ace let his angst go as he said: “I’m a darts player, I’m not here to sit and talk and tell stories. And when I do, I usually get into trouble. I don’t do YouTube, but I’m watching. We’ve got, what do you call them? Influencers? How to play darts.
“I’ve never seen the bloke in my life, I’ve watched him play darts, he’s absolutely rank at it. So why watch him? Kids need to learn they can go buy a set of darts that cost you £10, £20, £40, £50, instead of spending hundreds of pounds on darts. And play the game. Influencers? What a load of b*****cks. Absolutely t*****s.
“How many times do you watch boys on YouTube? Do you want to play like a pro? Who is he? They actually know about darts, do they?
“It’s a load of rubbish. For young kids, it ain’t good. Just let them play darts and enjoy. Buy a £20 set of darts and go and enjoy your game of darts. End of. Easy.”
Anderson had to fight to get past Zonneveld with a lack of recent action an issue as he said: “It’s the first time since the Worlds. I’m going to be a bit rusty.”
His run to the World Championship semi-finals was a resurgence, but he says it’s not something that matters now as he explained: “No, I sleep at night, and I wake up in the morning and it’s all disappeared. I can’t remember a thing. This is a new year. It can only get better I hope.”
