Stoke City have had interest in taking Nathan Lowe out on loan as the striker nears a return to fitness.

Lowe came to wider attention in the first half of last season thanks to a prolific spell on loan with Walsall in League Two. The striker, who has been on Stoke’s books since primary school, scored 19 times before he was called back to the bet365 Stadium in an emergency last January following the exit of Tom Cannon and injury to Sam Gallagher.

The 20-year-old spent the first half of this season at Stockport County in League One and he had scored seven times before he was struck down with a leg injury in December. He cut his loan short when he returned to Stoke for treatment and he is hoping to be back playing in February.

Stoke have had a striker crisis as Robert Bozenik, Sam Gallagher, Divin Mubama and Emre Tezgel have also been injured at the same time but Lamine Cisse has had the chance to stake his claim at centre-forward and Milan Smit has joined from Go Ahead Eagles.

They will now have to make a decision on what is best for club and player as the clock ticks towards a 7pm transfer deadline on Monday. There will no shortage of suitors in League One.

Mark Robins said: “He’s hopeful of being back in the not too distant future. I know there is some interest in Nathan to go back out on loan and that will be under discussion in the next 24 or 48 hours.”
