The Cure Shares “Boys Don’t Cry (86 Mix)” as Song Becomes Legendary Band’s First to Hit a Billion Spotify Streams

Share:

“Boys Don’t Cry” is one of the signature songs released by The Cure over the course of the English band’s legacy — and it now holds a milestone, recently becoming the first song from Robert Smith and his colleagues to reach one billion streams on Spotify.

Thanks to a resurgence on the TikTok charts in the U.S. and the U.K., the song has received a boost in recent months, helping elevate its profile enough to hit that one billion mark.

To celebrate, the Cure has a new 12″ vinyl, 7″ vinyl, CD and digital release lined up — as well as the premiere of “Boys Don’t Cry (86 Mix).”

Here’s a bit about the song’s recording history and what makes this revisiting special, per a news release:

The song went on to become one of the band’s signature tracks and achieved international success in 1986, when Robert Smith re-recorded the vocal and remixed the backing track. Although this new version was created to promote the best of collection Staring At The Sea – The Singles, the LP itself featured the original recording, and the 7-inch version of Boys Don’t Cry (New Voice – New Mix), now retitled Boys Don’t Cry (86 Mix), is being released digitally for the first time.
