Netflix’s New 6-Part Spy Thriller Series Is The Perfect One-Night Weekend Binge

A new Netflix spy thriller series that just dropped on the streaming service is the perfect one-night weekend binge. Many espionage shows have emerged over the last few years, and it makes sense, as the streaming format is perfectly suited for thriller shows with great hooks for what is next in each episode. The best spy thriller series always keep audiences guessing along the way.
To that end, the best recent spy thriller series include shows like The Night Agent, The Agency, Slow Horses, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Day Of The Jackal, and more. Netflix understands what makes the genre work, with two of Netflix’s best thriller series being espionage hits The Night Agent and Black Doves. Now, a new TV show has been added to that roster.
Netflix’s New Spy Thriller Series Is Worth Watching
Unfamiliar was released on Netflix on Thursday, February 5. The German spy thriller series consists of six episodes, which fall in the 49–58 minutes range. The spy series focuses on Simon and Meret Schäfer, played by Felix Kramer and Susanne Wolff, respectively, a married couple of spies who now live a quiet life by running a safe house in Berlin.
The Netflix thriller series kicks into high gear when their past comes calling, which blows their covers and forces the couple to not only get active once again, but also confront what secrets they have kept from one another. The former German foreign intelligence operatives try to help a mysterious man who brings along a revelation about a mission that went badly 16 years ago.
Unfamiliar also stars Andreas Pietschmann, known for the Netflix hit Sci-Fi series Dark.
That mission has heavily impacted the couple, and with the new events, it is what forces them to grapple with how much they know about one another and whether they can trust each other. Additionally, they have a daughter, the 16-year-old Nina, who is suddenly exposed to her parents’ dark lives. Unfamiliar is worth watching for its deconstruction of the leads and the intense approach to the story.
Why Netflix’s Unfamiliar Is The Perfect One-Night Weekend Binge
In the streaming age, where there are many new shows to watch across several streaming services each week, viewers might get a bit lost about what constitutes the ideal weekend binge. Well, Netflix’s Unfamiliar is the perfect answer to that question. With layered characters, a gripping story, several mysteries, and shocking action, Unfamiliar plays like the perfect non-stop ride from start to finish.
Thriller shows are traditionally great for binge sessions, as viewers can get the answers to jaw-dropping cliffhangers and carefully built mysteries on the same night. With just six episodes and less than six hours of runtime, Unfamiliar fits that bill, making for the perfect Netflix one-night binge session as we head into the weekend.
