Forest family with ties to Seahawks head coach is ready to cheer on the team on Sunday

FOREST, Va. (WSET) — On Sunday, you may just hear one of the famous Seattle “Fanquakes” coming from a home in Forest.
The Groovers are more than fans, they’re family. But Tim Groover hasn’t always been a Seahawks fan.
“No, it’s just been two years,” Groover admitted.
His niece, Steph, is married to Seattle Head Coach Mike McDonald.

Steph is from Virginia, too. She cheered at Virginia Tech and later cheered for several NFL teams before she married Mike in 2021.
Now that Mike’s in Seattle, Groover is one of the 12s.
“It’s been fun to be inside the room from time to time; to have a field pass before a game,” Groover said. “My wife had a conversation with Marshawn Lynch before the first game we were at.”
“The part I’ve really enjoyed is you get to know some of the family members. They’re real people,” Groover said. “They’re real people in a different world, but to talk to Sam Darnold’s mom and dad. They’re real salt-of-the-earth kind of folks.”
Groover says that sense of family is a big part of Seattle’s success.
“Their focus has been win football games,” Groover said. “Steph’s a big part of that. She will tell you. If you say ‘hey what are you doing, Steph, what’s your focus?’ she’ll say, ‘My focus is to whatever I need to do to help Mike win football games.'”

“They really, within two years, have the people in the positions with the culture to do something pretty special and it’s been fun to watch it,” Groover said.
