A ski hill in western Quebec is closed for the rest of the day after a child was seriously injured in a chairlift mishap Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. at Centre Vorlage near Wakefield, Que., MRC des Collines police told Radio-Canada afternoon.
The incident happened during a school trip to the resort, when a child was about to get off a ski lift, said Sgt. Martin Fournel, with MRC des Collines police.
The child was then taken to CHEO, the children’s hospital in Ottawa, he said.
Police are investigating and psychological support has been offered to those who need it.
“It’s just really tragic to hear,” said Misha Lesage, who grew up going to the ski resort. “When something happens like this, it definitely impacts the community.”
Public Safety Canada is also looking into the incident, police said.
On its website, Centre Vorlage says the hill is closed for the rest of the day.
