Melania Trump, in a rare joint appearance with the president, delivered a heartfelt Valentine’s message to U.S. troops, yet notably omitted any mention of her husband when speaking about love in an embarrassing moment for the president.

Donald and Melania journeyed to North Carolina on Friday, where they visited military personnel and their families at Fort Bragg and paid tribute to service members involved in last month’s capture of Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro.

“To our great armed forces of the United States stationed all over the world, I have a nostalgia-filled message. Happy Valentine’s Day,” Melania expressed briefly to the gathered crowd. Reading from a prepared speech on the podium before her, the first lady continued: “Love letters have symbolized the union of patriotism and family devotion among our soldiers for 250 years. The harmony of love of country and love of family is what make us uniquely American.”

Melania doesn’t mention Donald Trump in Valentine’s Day love message

She added, “It is very balanced which strengthens our military and builds our communities.”, reports the Mirror US.

Concluding her remarks, Melania introduced the president to the stage, but her Valentine’s message was devoid of any reference to him. “And now, it is my distinct honor to introduce your Commander in Chief, our leader who maintains a mission of peace through strength, President Donald J Trump,” she announced.

As he took the stage, Trump planted a kiss on Melania’s cheek in an uncommon display of public affection. The first lady seemed to be pulling away when he drew her back in for a second kiss on the other cheek.

“Honey thank you very much,” the president said as he motioned for Melania to sit down. On Wednesday, Melania marked an early Valentine’s Day by spending time with children and young adults receiving treatment for rare and serious illnesses.

The president was not alongside the first lady as she participated in Valentine-themed arts and crafts at The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health.

Trump was instead engaged in discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before giving a speech at a “Champion of Coal” gathering.
