Schools nationwide will close down for one full day in February. Here’s what you need to know
Presidents Day is observed on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026.
The federal holiday is a day off of work for many in federal and state offices, including the U.S. Postal Service.
Also, many K-12 school districts and private schools nationwide and throughout New Jersey close on or around the holiday.
Here is what you need to know about school closures on Presidents Day 2026.
Are schools open on Presidents Day 2026?
Most schools are closed on Presidents Day 2025, which is a federal holiday. You will likely find the most accurate information on the school or district’s website.
However, sometimes districts start the year saying school is closed on the holiday. Then, they keep it open if days need to be made up because of too many snow days.
Are New Jersey public school districts open on Presidents Day 2026?
Most public school districts in New Jersey are closed on Presidents Day.
Some are also closed on the Friday before the holiday.
It is up to the district to decide, however, so it’s best to check with your local school to see if it is open or closed. The most accurate information likely will be on the school or district’s website.

Are New Jersey private or parochial schools open on Presidents Day 2026?
Like public school districts, private or parochial schools have their own school calendars. Most, if not all, also are closed on Presidents Day and/or the Friday before the holiday.
However, individually run private or parochial schools decide whether or not to use Presidents Day as part of a school break like public school districts do. It is best to check with your local school to see if it is open or closed.
