- Top-spec Hummer makes 1,160 hp, hits 60 mph in 2.8 sec.
Things have gone a bit quiet on the Hummer front now that the buzz of the 2020 launch has long since faded into the background. So GM decided to jog our memory in the least subtle way possible, by filming a group of exotic supercars racing, while secretly letting the Hummer do the real flexing.
The video opens like any good automotive fantasy race. A Ferrari F8, a Ford GT, a Porsche Taycan, a Dodge Challenger Hellcat and an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera line up to launch. You immediately start picking favorites and squinting at the screen, trying to figure out which six-figure missile is inching ahead.
The Camera Car Twist
They blast forward in a heady mix of noise, boost, and drama. The Ferrari screams, nosing ahead of the GT, and the Challenger, while it’s stuck at the back trying to get its rear tires to hook up. It looks like a straightforward supercar drag race filmed from a pace car keeping everything nicely framed.

Except the camera car isn’t struggling to keep up. It’s actually pulling away. Subtly at first, then not so subtly at all. While you’re busy arguing with yourself about the merits of V6 versus V8, the lens keeps drifting farther ahead.
Hummer Steps Into View
Then comes the reveal. The camera angle shifts and you realize the camera isn’t attached to a secret hypercar, a drone or a top-fuel dragster. It’s bolted to an electric GMC Hummer pickup, all 9,000+ lbs (4,080 kg) of it, and that’s without factoring the added weight of the camera equipment and video crew in this case.

In its wildest form, the Hummer packs up to 1,160 hp (1,176 PS / 865 kW) and a tidal wave of torque. Hit Watts to Freedom mode and GM’s silliest EV explodes to 60 mph (97 kmh) in 2.8 seconds, and digs in hard enough before it gets there to put clear air between it and the five fancy exotics to its left.
Sure, at higher speeds the lighter, more aerodynamic supercars would fight back, and they’d demolish it around a track. But the closing sequence of the video showing the Hummer crab-walking and climbing dirt hills reminds us that it has a few other tricks that the supercars can’t match.
