Kasper Schmeichel is coming in for a lot of criticism for his performances for Celtic this season but it seems that in the Europa League, the Hoops’ number one shines.

The big Dane has made a few high-profile mistakes for Celtic domestically, more notably how Schmeichel was at fault for two of Kilmarnock’s goals in the Hoops’ win at Rugby Park at the weekend.

But it appears that for Celtic in the Europa League, that is where Schmeichel appears to put in his best performances for Martin O’Neill’s side.

What a line-up this is? Would that have been possible?

What changes would you make?

And UEFA have ranked the Celtic goalkeeper against others in the competition, as well as former Parkhead stopper Vasilis Barkas.

Barkas makes it to tenth in the list as the Greek goalkeeper continues to enjoy his football away from Celtic after his disastrous spell in Paradise during the COVID period.

The best and worst of Kasper Schmeichel in the Europa League

Schmeichel has made some important saves for Celtic in this season’s Europa League campaign, but the Danish keeper has also had some howlers.

In the 2-0 Celtic Park defeat to SC Braga, Schmeichel’s positioning and performance during the whole 90 minutes was rated as his worst by Fotmob at 4.4 out of 10.

However, in Celtic’s historic win over Feyenoord, the big goalkeeper was solid as Schmeichel made a number of saves and was rated at 7.2 to ensure the Bhoys left the Netherlands with all three Europa League points.

If Schmeichel can get some consistency, then he will have a huge say in Celtic’s domestic and European campaigns, but unfortunately, that has been lacking in his game this season.
