We Have All the Details on ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2 and There’s a Lot to Discuss

Didn’t think a Game of Thrones adjacent series featuring projectile diarrhea and gruesome deaths would end up being my emotional support show on Sunday nights, but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is that girl. And it’s truly gone too soon.
After just six half-hour episodes, the wholesome dramady—about a hedge knight and his squire—is wrapping up its debut season. But the good news? More Dunk and Egg are on the way. Here’s what we know about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2.
Has A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Been Renewed?
Yes! In fact, HBO renewed the show for a second season before the first season even dropped.

When Is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Coming Out?
2027! At least according to Variety’s recent reporting. As for when, it seems fair to assume the show will come out around the same time as season one, so keep an eye out for HBO’s January 2027 schedule!
Has Filming on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Started?
Steffan Hill//HBO
Yep! Variety reported back in December that shooting on the show had officially kicked off in Belfast. More recently (in February), showrunner Ira Parker told AV Club that they were already in post production, saying “We are cutting some scenes together now, and the directors are seeing some of it, so it feels nice to see [season two] slowly come together. The show coming out at the same time as we work on it has been a blessing in many ways. It allows you to do what Dunk does by putting one foot in front of the other to focus on the work instead of just focusing on the response.”
Who’s in the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Cast?
The cast will largely consist of new faces as Dunk and Egg’s adventure continues. Definite cast/characters include…
- Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall (played by Peter Claffey)
- Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen (played Dexter Sol Ansell)
And new characters who haven’t had cast announcements just yet (even though the show has been filming!) include….
- King Aerys I Targaryen
- Brynden Rivers, hand of the king
- Aemon Targaryan
- Ser Eustace, who Dunk swears his sword to
- Ser Bennis the Brown, Ser Eustace’s other sworn sword
- Lady Rohanne Webber, the head of House Webber
- Ser Lucas Inchfield, a suitor of Lady Rohanne
What’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 About?
Steffan Hill//HBO
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based off of George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, and Season 2 will follow the events of The Sworn Sword.
Parker tells AV Club “We’re now getting into The Sworn Sword, which is my favorite novella in many ways, with Rohanne Webber or the Red Widow, Ser Bennis, and Ser Eustace, who are these classic characters. I can’t say much but we have three absolutely brilliant actors coming in to do these roles. I’m excited.”
Not gonna get tooooo into spoilers here, but the novella takes place a year and a half after the events of book/season one, and Dunk has sworn his sword to a knight named Ser Eustace (yes, Egg comes with). The plot largely involves drama over a dried up stream, a dam, and a neighbor named Lady Rohanne….
How Many Books Are Left?
There are three Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, but George R.R. Martin has Dunk and Egg’s entire life story mapped out. And he shared his plans with Parker, who told The Hollywood Reporter “Even though we don’t have the ins and outs of every story, we know canonically the major beats of Dunk and Egg throughout their lives. So we wouldn’t necessarily run into the same trouble as the flagship did. And George has outlined 12 more of these stories that he’s shared with me. These stories take them all the way through their lives. Some of these are just a paragraph, but they give you a sense of where they’re going to go and the people who come back in and out of the story.”
In other words, we COULD be looking at 12 seasons!
