San Bartolomé de Tirajana activates PEMU due to wind and coastal phenomena alert as a storm passes through

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has activated its Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU) following a warning issued by the Canary Islands Government’s Directorate General of Emergencies, which has declared a state of alert for winds and coastal phenomena. This decision comes in response to the passage of a storm system expected to significantly affect the archipelago, with forecasts of thunderstorms, locally heavy rainfall, strong gusts of wind, and rough seas.

Activating the PEMU (Municipal Emergency Plan) involves setting up municipal emergency coordination and response mechanisms. The Local Police Crisis Room will function as the Municipal Coordination Center, under the operational direction of the Chief Commissioner of the Local Police, in collaboration with Civil Protection and the 1-1-2 Emergency Coordination Center (CECOES), ensuring continuous monitoring of weather conditions and the implementation of preventative measures.

As a preventative measure, the local council has suspended all organized outdoor activities and closed recreational areas in the upper part of the municipality, such as Tunte, in addition to removing sunbeds, umbrellas, and other seasonal items from the beaches. Boat owners are also advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid going out to sea while the alert remains in effect, in order to protect public safety and minimize potential property damage.
