Watch: Smoke rises near US Navy base in Bahrain amid Iran conflagration

Smoke was seen rising from the Juffair area of Bahrain on Saturday, where the United States Navy’s Fifth Fleet is headquartered, according to a witness, in the latest development following the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran earlier in the day.

There was no immediate comment from U.S. or Bahraini authorities regarding the cause of the smoke, and it was not immediately clear whether the naval facilities had been directly targeted.

The Juffair district hosts a major American naval installation that serves as a key hub for U.S. operations in the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters. The sighting comes amid heightened regional tensions after Israel and the United States launched coordinated strikes against Iranian military and regime-linked targets, prompting warnings of possible retaliation against American and allied assets in the region.

Bahrain’s Interior Ministry announced the activation of alerts warning of missile fire in the country. Residents were instructed to remain in protected spaces.
