During a recent episode of Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids, Amanda Owen discussed the “pressure” she was facing whilst making decisions about their farmhouse Anty John’s.

The Yorkshire Shepherdess, who rose to prominence through Our Yorkshire Farm, which is showing repeats this weekend, reflected on developments with the Anty John’s renovations after saying “I don’t know quite what I am doing”.

Offering an update, Amanda said: “The house is, in a way, split in two. Basically, the house end is listed. The barn end is not listed. So the main house needs to be done with blind plaster, and the barn end, we can just plasterboard and skim it. It’s a faster, quicker, easier, cheaper job.”

She added: “So that’s all happening. There’s been a real shift now in where we’re at with the whole building project. We’re now at a stage where it is about the interiors and basically how you’re going to style it.”

Amanda then organised a meeting with Simon, a lighting consultant, who showcased various lighting options, although things got off to an uncertain start, reports the Express, reports the Mirror.

The first two lighting proposals didn’t resonate with Amanda’s taste. She described the first as “too modern” whilst the second made her feel “sea sick”. She observed, “I’ll tell you something, it’s incredibly interesting. But I feel like that is far too much out there for this place.”

Reflecting on the weight of responsibility she faces, Amanda said: “There’s a bit more sort of onus and pressure on me to kind of make decisions, and that’s really hard.”

She continued: “I don’t know quite what I am doing, so what I am doing is relying on other people to come up with suggestions whilst I say, ‘No’.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Amanda and Clive shared the devastating news of the passing of their beloved dog Chalky. Amanda struggled to hold back tears as the Owen family gathered to say their final farewell to the much-loved pet, with their daughters even reciting a poem in tribute.

“When the children came running out of the house door saying that Chalky had passed away, they were absolutely bereft, and they knew it was coming, and I knew it was coming,” Amanda recalled.

“But still, just to see her laid there, as peaceful as anything and still warm, it pulled at your heartstrings.”

She added: “No, she’s had a good life.” Clive reflected: “Oh, it’s good old Chalkie. She’s gone, but not forgotten. She’s lived a great life, and she’s been a great friend to us all. There she’ll be, and we’ll remember her there, won’t we?”.
