NBA Trade Idea Sends DeMar DeRozan From Sacramento Kings To Atlanta Hawks

An NBA trade idea sending DeMar DeRozan from the Sacramento Kings to the Atlanta Hawks has been created.

NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Kings and Hawks:

Sacramento Kings get: Zaccharie Risacher and Gabe Vincent

Atlanta Hawks get: DeMar DeRozan and a 2027 second-round pick

This NBA trade idea pairs DeRozan with Jalen Johnson, Jonathan Kuminga, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and CJ McCollum. That’s a talented core that could make noise in the wide-open Eastern Conference.

DeRozan remains one of the top scorers in the league. He’s averaging 18.2 points per game for the Kings this season while shooting 49.3% from the field, 33.6% from beyond the arc and 86.8% from the free-throw line.

At this stage of his career, DeRozan is better suited to play for a winning team. The 36-year-old is wasting the end of his basketball life on the lowly Kings, who have the worst record in the NBA.

“This is undoubtedly selling low on Zaccharie Risacher, but nearly all the way through his second NBA season, he’s playing nowhere near a starter’s level,” Bailey wrote. “And with the way Jalen Johnson is performing, it’s fair to be a little impatient with Risacher.

“Johnson is ready to win now, and having DeMar DeRozan available to run reserve lineups could help Atlanta do that. He has his own basketball warts, but in the appropriate role (a super Sixth Man), he can still be productive.”

This NBA trade idea can’t happen now since the trade deadline has passed. However, it could happen in the offseason.

DeRozan will make $25.7 million next season in the final year of his contract. The Kings are widely expected to trade the USC product this offseason.

A six-time All-Star, DeRozan has played for the Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls and Kings. He holds career averages of 21.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
