Cam Jordan just made his stance on Tyler Shough crystal clear

New Orleans Saints icon Cam Jordan was caught in an interview by TMZ Sports and was asked about Tyler Shough. It’s safe to say that the NFL veteran is a fan.
Jordan hopes Shough is the next franchise quarterback. He said to TMZ that he thinks the team could have a bright future with him and that he plans to build on the process the Saints showed last year. High praise from someone who’s sure to be in the team’s Ring of Honor one day; it’s not the first time Shough has received such praise from Jordan. Earlier this year, Jordan went on ESPN’s “Get Up,” stood on a soapbox, and gave nothing but praise for the rookie.
Jordan said that in Shough’s nine starts, he saw something that could excite anyone. “You saw something that could excite a fanbase. You saw him be able to be elusive and be able to turn corners. He’s faster than he looks,” Jordan said to the crew. “He also just progressed. In every game, he got better. You’re like, ‘oh dang, he might slow down.’ No, he got better.”
Tyler Shough is set to have an even better year in 2026
Shough impressed as much as he did by breaking multiple team records, some that were decades old. However, what might top everything else on the impressive meter is the fact that he did all that with an offense that wasn’t even catered to him.
At the time that Kellen Moore was hired, Derek Carr had yet to retire. Even when that did happen, Shough didn’t get the starting nod and was practicing on the scout team to start the season. Those reps on the scout team did come in handy, as the attrition of the season led to some of those players also getting their opportunity. With those players, Shough continued to excel, and it’s honestly one of the more impressive things he did in 2025.
Now, heading into the offseason as the bona fide starter for the Saints, he’s set to have a sophomore surge instead of a sophomore slump next season. The staff is sure to have building around Shough as their main priority. He could get some really shiny new tools next year in the upcoming draft.
There’s also the possibility that free agency could be kind to Shough. Next year’s cap space increased by $22 million to $301.2 million, leaving the Saints with $10.5 million over. Light work for Mickey Loomis and Co., who have at times been $100 million in the red. Those funds could be used to get a running back, wide receiver, offensive guard, or tight end. They can’t all be addressed with veterans, but Shough would benefit from more talent in each of those room
