UFC 326 weigh-ins: BMF Title clash official but one bout cancelled

All but one fighter successfully made weight Friday at the UFC 326 weigh-in, but fight fans can rest easy since both headline competitors hit the mark without issue, rendering Saturday’s anticipated main event official.

Former featherweight champion Max Holloway will attempt to defend the “BMF Title” when he faces former lightweight champ Charles Oliveira in a rematch more than a decade in the making.

The first meeting was a Fight Night headliner in Saskatoon in 2015 that ended after just 99 seconds when Oliveira sustained a fluke injury.

That initial matchup took place in the 145-pound division before either fighter had won UFC gold. Holloway went on to become featherweight champion and Oliveira eventually had a memorable run as the UFC’s top lightweight.

The rematch takes place in the lightweight division but since the BMF Title is not an official weight class title, they were both allowed a one-pound allowance like all non-title bouts.

Holloway and Oliveira had to be no heavier than 156 pounds, and both did exactly that. Holloway has never missed weight and he stepped on the scale at 155.5 pounds ahead of UFC 326.

Oliveira has a history of missing weight but got to the 156-pound limit on Friday. He previously came in above the limit four times from 2012 to 2016 during his run at featherweight. That’s also technically how his time as lightweight champ ended. He missed weight by half a pound ahead of his 2022 matchup with Islam Makhachev and was stripped of the title before being submitted by Makhachev at UFC 280 the following day.

A preliminary card matchup between Jeong-yeong Lee and Gaston Bolanos was cancelled due to weight management issues with Lee. The cancellation was announced after Bolanos had already successfully made weight.

The co-main event features middleweight contenders Caio Borralho and Reinier de Ridder and the main card also opens with a 185-pound rematch between Brazilian knockout artists Gregory Rodrigues and Brunno Ferreira.

Lightweight southpaw brawlers Drew Dober and Michael Johnson are also on the main card and should challenge Fight of the Night frontrunners Holloway and Oliveira for the coveted post-fight bonus award. Dober has the most knockout wins in UFC lightweight history and Johnson has the most knockdowns in the division.
