Svitolina Advances to Indian Wells Third Round

Ukraine’s top-ranked player Elina Svitolina advanced to the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells (USA) with a prize fund of almost $9.5 million.

In the second round, Svitolina, who is 9th in the WTA rankings, secured a tight victory over German Laura Siegemund (55th in the rankings) – 7-6(7-5), 4-6, 6-3. The match lasted more than two and a half hours.

She will face American Ashlyn Krueger (No. 82) for a place in the Round of 16, who earned a come-from-behind victory over neutral Ludmila Samsonova (No. 19) – 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Prospects and history of Svitolina at Indian Wells

Note that Svitolina is taking part in Indian Wells for the twelfth time. Seven years ago Elina reached the semifinals, and last season she made it to the quarterfinals.

The tournament in California will run through March 15.
