Louisville to face SMU in ACC Tournament opener

Louisville will begin what it hopes is a second straight run in the ACC Tournament with a Wednesday afternoon game against SMU.
The Mustangs, seeded 11th in the tournament, took out No. 14 Syracuse, 86-69, in a first round matchup from Charlotte on Tuesday.
Second Team All-ACC honoree Boopie Miller led the way for SMU, scoring 25 points and adding seven rebounds and four assists. Jaron Pierre Jr. shot just 5-of-17 from three but added 21 points, while Jaden Toombs finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
Playing without the services of third-leading scorer B.J. Edwards (ankle injury), SMU didn’t get a single point from any of the three bench players who saw the floor Tuesday afternoon, but all five of its starters scored in double figures.
Louisville and SMU split their regular season series. The Cardinals won 88-74 at the Yum Center on Jan. 31, with the Mustangs returning the favor, 95-85, in Dallas on Feb. 17.
Wednesday’s game figures to mean a great deal to SMU, which finds itself currently situated directly on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
