Former Eagles pass rusher Bryce Huff announces his retirement from NFL

Former Eagles pass rusher Bryce Huff announced his retirement from the NFL in an Instagram post, bringing an end to his professional football career.

Former Eagles pass rusher Bryce Huff just announced his retirement from the NFL on Instagram, walking away from the game after 6 seasons. Huff entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2020. Since his debut in 2020, he has played for the Jets (2020–2023), Philadelphia Eagles (2024), and San Francisco 49ers (2025–present). Signed to a three-year, $51 million deal to replace Haason Reddick, Huff spent the majority of the 2024 season injured or out of the rotation.

A prize-free agent signing this time last spring, Huff was a major disappointment in 2024 and saw limited playing time due to the rotation and injuries. Huff had 2.5 sacks, missed seven games, and was inactive for the Super Bowl.

With Brandon Graham retiring and Josh Sweat signing with Arizona, it was assumed that Huff might take on a larger role in 2024 alongside Nolan Smith. Even after the Eagles signed Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari, Huff stayed away from voluntary off-season workouts, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported, and was traded to the 49ers in June.

Prior to joining the Eagles in Free agency, the then-25-year-old Huff had increased his sack production, jumping from 3.5 sacks in 2022 to 10.0 this past season. More of a situational pass rusher than a true defensive end or SAM linebacker, Huff played in just 42 percent of the Jets’ defensive snaps, as he was used solely in pass-rushing situations.
