Tenerife, La Palma, Portugal warning with UK tourists facing ‘highest risk’
A weather expert has issued a warning for Tenerife and La Palma tourists – as well as those visiting Portugal – in the coming weeks. La Palma and Tenerife are two of the Canary Islands, and a weather expert has warned both are at the “highest risk” of heavy rain.
Madeira, in Portugal, is also impacted. Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly wrote on social media: “Risk of high rainfall totals for parts of the Canary Islands and Madeira.
“As Ireland is likely to see high pressure bring us more settled and drier weather from later this coming week, there is a risk of low pressure to the Southwest of Spain bringing a lot of rain to Western Canary Islands and Madeira.”

He added: “In the Canaries La Palma and parts of Tenerife at highest risk. Models show that over the next 2 weeks up to 300mm could fall on La Palma and up to 270mm on Madeira. If planning a holiday in that area keep an eye on the forecast.”
According to forecasts, the arrival of the Atlantic front will bring widespread rainfall across northern Spain, with some areas facing particularly intense conditions.
According to AEMET, which is the Spanish version of the Met Office, the weather forecast for Tenerife indicates mainly clear skies or few clouds overall.
There is also expected to be some cloud cover in the north and cloudy conditions in the northeast, carrying a low probability of light and sporadic precipitation.
Light haze will be present, more significant in the peaks and southern slopes, diminishing during the second half of the day, according to the meteorologists.
Minimum temperatures may see a slight rise, while maximum temperatures are predicted to decrease slightly, according to the forecasters from AEMET.
But they also said a weak frost is not ruled out in central highlands.
