Claude has stopped working properly, with users being hit by errors as they try to talk to the chatbot.
The system is seeing “elevated errors”, according to a status page operated by its creators, Anthropic. The outage began in the morning UK time, and the company said that it had identified the issue and is working on a fix.
It gave no indication of the cause of the problem.
Tracking website Down Detector confirmed that a number of users had been hit by the problems, right around the world – but that it was not a full outage.
It said that the problem appeared only to be affecting free users. Anthropic offers a free tier for Claude, in which they can ask a very limited number of questions, before they must pay a monthly fee for more access.
Both the Opus and Sonnet systems that power Claude’s responses were affected by the problems, according to the same status page.
