Miami Open star unleashes ‘you should be ashamed’ outburst in devastating hammering

Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered a crushing 6-0, 6-1 defeat to Arthur Fils at the Miami Open – his heaviest ever loss – and furiously complained to the umpire during the contest

Former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas criticised Miami Open organisers, telling them they should be ‘ashamed’ over the lighting during his match, which resulted in his worst ever defeat. The Greek ace was no match for Arthur Fils, succumbing to a 6-0, 6-1 loss.
Tsitsipas recently slipped to his lowest ranking in eight years after falling outside of the top 50, but had shown signs of recovery with a win over Alex de Minaur earlier in the tournament. However, the 27-year-old could only endure 55 minutes against his French adversary, committing 26 unforced errors.
However, it was the court lighting that most irked Tsitsipas, with chair umpire Greg Allensworth bearing the brunt of a heated tirade during the brief encounter. The former Australian and French Open finalist was far from pleased with the official.
“You should be ashamed of this,” Tsitsipas declared. “Have you ever seen me miss every shot after the serve like I’m doing today?
“It doesn’t happen. I cannot see the ball. I don’t know how he sees the ball.”

Fils certainly had no issues in Miami as he progressed to the fourth round in South Florida. The Frenchman won 89 per cent of his first serve points and saved the two break points he faced.
The 21-year-old has been in fine form since returning from a back injury that prematurely ended his 2025 season. Fils reached the final in Doha and made the quarter-finals at Indian Wells, and now advances to the last-16 in Miami, where he will face Valentin Vacherot.
“That’s one of the best matches I’ve ever played,” Fils said following his win. “I have played some great matches before, but this level was insane. I don’t know what to say, but very happy with the performance.”

“I am fully back,” Fils added. “It feels like I never left. It feels very, very good.”
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz suffered a surprise defeat to Sebastian Korda. The top seed lost 6-3,5-7, 6-4 but believes he is still progressing well.
“I think the process has been good. Besides the loss today, I think I’m still in the right way,” he said.
“Some things in previous tournaments that I just didn’t feel comfortable, I think in this tournament, I started to feel better and better.”
Korda was certainly happier, as he beat a top-ranked player for the first time in his career. “It feels great,” he said.
“I took the scenic route, that’s for sure – a little more stress than I would want but happy with how I played. I kept believing. I got myself in some nasty situations, but I kept going and played really well in the end.”
