Is Dan Hurley related to Bobby Hurley?
Dan Hurley is indeed related to Bobby Hurley. Bobby came to prominence long before his brother, as he was a two-time national champion and 1992–93 All-American at Duke before a five-year NBA career. But it’s Dan who has found the most success in the coaching ranks, with a pair of national titles at UConn.
Are Dan and Bobby Hurley twins?
The Hurley brothers aren’t twins, but they aren’t separated by much. Bobby was born in June of 1971, while Dan was born 19 months later in January of 1973.

Who is Bob Hurley Sr.?
The Hurley brothers are prominent names today, but their father set the standard.
Bob Hurley Sr. is one of the most successful high school coaches in basketball history, having served as head coach at St. Anthony High School for 45 seasons from 1972 to 2017. He won 26 state championships and became the third high school coach elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame when he received an orange jacket in 2010.
Bob’s run included five undefeated seasons, six NBA first-round picks, and reportedly many job offers at the college level that he turned down. His tenure at St. Anthony only ended when the school closed in 2017.
Both Hurley brothers played for their father. Now in retirement, Bob watches with pride as his sons lead major basketball programs on opposite sides of the country.

Dan Hurley family tree
Dan Hurley has a wife and two sons. Here’s what you need to know about them.
Dan Hurley wife: Andrea Hurley
More prominent at UConn games than perhaps anyone connected to Hurley is his wife, Andrea, who earned camera time during the Huskies’ title runs in 2023 and 2024. Dan and Andrea married in 1997, and photos from that point in their relationship show the UConn coach with much more hair than he has today.
While Andrea has said she has “zero interest” in basketball herself, she briefly co-hosted a podcast named “Ball Is Wife” to give the perspective of wives and girlfriends in sports. Andrea has also said the players are her favorite part of her husband’s profession.
How did Dan Hurley meet his wife?
The Hurleys met while they were both students at Seton Hall.
“I met her at Seton Hall. It’s like, by far, the best thing that happened to me at Seton Hall, but that was the thing that saved my life when I met her,” Hurley told WTNH in 2023. He explained that Andrea made him “want to be better.”
Andrea, meanwhile, said she didn’t know Dan was an athlete or of the prominence of his family at the time.

Dan Hurley son: Danny Hurley
Danny Hurley is the Hurleys’ oldest son. Born in 1999, Danny followed his father’s path and graduated from Seton Hall in 2021, where he majored in history.
Danny pursued a political career, as he has served as an aide to former New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and New Jersey senate president Nicholas Scutari.
Dan Hurley son: Andrew Hurley
Hurley’s youngest son, Andrew, played under his father for four seasons at UConn, finishing his career with back-to-back national championships. Andrew didn’t hold a regular role with the Huskies, receiving a total of 63 minutes across his four seasons in Storrs, but he became a fan favorite and was able to close out some games in 2023 and 2024 with the numerous blowouts UConn engineered on its way to titles.
Andrew told CT Insider that he doesn’t plan to follow his father into the coaching ranks but would be open to a general manager role as more college basketball programs hire executives to manage roster-building.

Hurley and his wife have two daughters, Cameron and Sydney. Cameron, like her father, graduated from Duke, while less is known about Sydney.
Bobby Hurley son: Bobby Hurley III
Hurley’s only son, Bobby III, spent four seasons on Arizona State’s basketball team under his father. He played only 82 minutes across his career and graduated in 2025.
Bobby Hurley accident
Just as he was trying to become an NBA star in his rookie season, Hurley’s career and life were derailed by a serious car accident in 1993. Hurley was thrown 100 feet from his car after colliding with a vehicle that didn’t have its headlights on, resulting in broken ribs, a pair of collapsed lungs, a severed trachea, a fracture in his back and a torn ACL, among other injuries.
Hurley did return to the NBA, but he struggled to be the player he wanted to be and spent only five seasons in the league. After his playing career, Hurley struggled to figure out what he wanted to do next. His brother’s coaching career helped open doors, as Bobby became an assistant on Dan’s staffs at Wagner and Rhode Island before landing his first head coaching job at Buffalo.
“He has a purpose now, and it’s not just about him,” Leslie said of her husband after he was hired by Arizona State, where he spent 11 seasons.

The Hurleys’ mother, Christine, has long been married to Bob Sr. and served as a scorekeeper for many of her husband’s games during his time as a high school coach. Do the Hurley brothers have other siblings?
Dan and Bobby have one sister, Melissa, who largely keeps her life private. Dan also revealed earlier in his career that he had a younger brother named Sean who died as a young child. “The death of my — we had a younger brother, who was born after me and before my youngest sister, Melissa. Sean, who died very young,” Dan said when asked about some of the toughest moments of his life outside of basketball.
Where are the Hurleys from?
The Hurleys are New Jerseyans through-and-through. Bob Sr., Bobby and Dan were all born in Jersey City and grew up in New Jersey. Bobby’s basketball prowess took him to Durham, where he starred at Duke, but Dan stayed local for college, playing in-state at Seton Hall.
The Hurleys may have most of their fans in Connecticut and the surrounding areas today, but their roots tie them back to New Jersey.
