Part of the M60, to the west of Manchester, has been shut in both directions while police deal with an incident.
Traffic has come to a standstill between junction 11 at Eccles and junction 10 at Trafford Park, National Highways said.
Queues have built up over the past hour, with warnings of a 15-minute delay on the approach to the area.
Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
