Opening Day live updates: Tigers fans pack downtown Detroit

It’s Detroit Tigers Opening Day!

Although the MLB season officially began a week ago, the Tigers started on the road, going a combined 2-4 at San Diego and Arizona. On Friday, April 3, they play their home opener at 1:10 p.m. against the St. Louis Cardinals at Comerica Park.

In Detroit, we treat Opening Day like an unofficial holiday, with parties and events happening all around Downtown leading up to the game, and we’re on the ground to cover it all. Get the latest updates as we cover the fan experience.

One more throwback, this time a visual: a picture of Tom Selleck wearing his signature wardrobe item as private detective Thomas Magnum on the hit ’80s TV series “Magnum, P.I.” To mix pop culture references, may the force of the hat be with you!

To set the mood for Opening Day, here’s a deep cut classic from “Detroiters” that has Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson rocking out to “April in the D,” an ode to the month when the Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings are competing at the same time. Like the song says, “Three teams, three leagues, one dream!!”
