John Eustace hopes Jacob Widell Zetterstrom will “soon be back” training with Derby County after issuing an encouraging update on his progress.

The Sweden international has not played since the 1-1 draw with West Brom due to a virus that has stopped him from participating in full training and playing.

But Zetterstrom has stepped up his workload in the last week which has given cause for encouragement as the club awaits the return of their number one.

He’s not in full training yet, but Derby are hopeful that in the coming weeks that will change.

Speaking ahead of the game against Coventry City tomorrow night, Eustace said: “Jake is doing really well now.

“He’s taking more part in the training. There’s still one or two things that he can’t do, but he’s made progression over the last week.

“That is a huge relief to all of us and hopefully in a couple more weeks he’ll join back in with the first team and be pushing for a place.

“He’s in a really good place now. He has a lot more colour back to his face. He’s got a big smile on his face as well.

“He’s progressing really nicely now so we’re not going to rush him. His health is the most important thing, but he’s ticking lots of boxes now to get where want him to get to.

“Hopefully, he’ll soon be back with the group.”
