Here are the latest cases from the region’s courts:
STOKE-ON-TRENT: Thirty-six-year-old Gregory Jackson has been handed a 12 month community order after he admitted breaching a restraining order. North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard under the terms of the order Jackson is prohibited from contacting his brother and sister-in-law or entering their street. But he walked past their address and knocked on their door between November 25 and November 29 last year. Simon Leech, representing Jackson, of no fixed address, said his client is a vulnerable individual who is struggling to accept the breakdown in the relationship with his brother. Magistrates sentenced Jackson to a 12-month community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement for 30 days and a three month GPS tag. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.
BENTILEE: Fifty-eight-year-old Kevin Hunter, of Ubberley Road, Bentilee, who has pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of class A drug with intent to supply and possession of a class B drug, will be sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court in the week commencing May 11. He was remanded in custody. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) offered no evidence against Brandon Cooper, aged 29, of Winchester Avenue, Bentilee, who was charged with two offences of possession of a class A drug with intent to supply. Judge Richard McConaghy entered not guilty verdicts and Cooper was discharged.
PACKMOOR: Shop thief Matthew Bancroft has been handed a 12 month conditional discharge after he admitted stealing goods worth £19.24 from B&M, Waterloo Road, Burslem, on December 1, 2025. Matthew Harrison, mitigating, told North Staffordshire Justice Centre that Bancroft had no money. He added the defendant, aged 46, of Greyson Avenue, Packmoor, has not committed any thefts since. Magistrates ordered Bancroft to pay £85 costs and £19.24 compensation.
KNUTTON: Twenty-seven-year-old Jake Dubiel, of Wilmot Drive, Knutton, denied conspiracy to supply class A drug cocaine and conspiracy to supply class B drug cannabis between January 1 and February 27, 2026. He will have a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on August 24. A pre-trial review will be held on June 22. Dubiel was remanded in custody.
NORTHWOOD: Forty-one-year-old David Hammonds, of Bold Street, Northwood, who denies assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation on December 30, will have a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court in the week commencing August 17. A pre-trial review will be held on July 6. Hammonds was remanded in custody.
