Sinitta and Brad Pitt’s relationship explained: how, when and where they met

Sinitta – one time ’80s pop princess – has evolved over the years into a mainstay on reality TV. From being Simon Cowell’s sidekick on The X Factor (posing naked with just some palm leaves covering her modesty at one point – we’re still not quite sure why) to Celebrity Big Brother and trying to find love on Celebs Go Dating, to now, a repeat offender of I’m A Celebrity.

But the one thing everybody always asks Sinitta is what was it like dating THE Brad Pitt? And surprise, surprise, the subject has come up once again, as the entertainer sets up her hammock into the jungle camp of I’m A Celeb… South Africa.

So what is the true story behind this unlikely love match? Here’s the full lowdown on Sinitta and Brad Pitt’s relationship history…

ITV

On Tuesday night’s show, it’s Scarlett Moffatt who first gets the popcorn out and asks Sinitta about her most famous relationship. “Did you, like, kiss and that?” Scarlett asked in the Main Camp.

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, Sinitta said: “Even I do think, wow, it was nice while it lasted.” Scarlett then asked if the memories still exist in her head. That’s a yes, Sinitta confirmed, adding: “All I have to do is close my eyes and there he is.” Speaking for all of us, Scarlett then quips: “I’d be napping all the time.”

When did Sinitta and Brad Pitt actually date?

Back in the ’80s, Sinitta was the Sabrina Carpenter of the day, with hits like ‘So Macho’, ‘Never Too Late’ and ‘Toy Boy’. Brad Pitt was just some random actor no one had heard of, and he’d just landed a four-episode appearance of a character called Randy in American soap opera Dallas.

Speaking with The Sun, Sinitta – full name Sinitta Renet Malone – revealed that back in the day, she would be approached by famous men’s agents to see if she’d be up for dating them. But, apparently, in around 1986, she turned Brad down at first: “When I was asked about Brad, I was like, ‘No, I’m not interested. Why would I date anybody I’ve not met?’. I didn’t know who he was. He was in Dallas at the time and I was more of a Dynasty fan.

“Later that day, though, I saw pictures of this gorgeous boy on the desk. I picked them up, waved them about and whispered to her, ‘Who is he? He’s cute’, and she said, ‘That’s the guy who wants to meet you’. I was like, ‘OK, yes. Get him on the phone’.”

The love-birds met in person, and the romance was ON. She said: “We met and just clicked. We were both quiet people, Christian, normal and healthy people underneath our crazy, public lifestyles and, at that point, he wasn’t really, really famous. He was just the hottest boy — drop dead gorgeous. Everywhere we went, all the gay guys were after him, all the girls were after him. Everybody just loved him because he was stunning.”

In 1988, the pair even stepped out together at the most important showbiz event of the year: the Smash Hits Poll Winners’ Party.

Last time Sinitta was on I’m A Celeb – back in 2011 – she said of Brad: “I saw him for two years. He was fun, he was young and very sweet. Some ardent fan gave me a slap when I came out of a supermarket over that relationship.

“It was before he made Thelma & Louise but even I saw that movie and thought ‘Oh my God, what have I done?'”

When did Brad Pitt and Sinitta break up?

Reportedly, the couple split up in 1988, and Brad apparently went on to date British actor Emily Lloyd (daughter of Only Fools and Horses‘ Trigger, AKA Roger Lloyd Pack).

According to OK! Magazine, Sinitta revealed the real reason for their split was the distance, as Brad lived in LA while Sinitta was touring the world on the pop circuit: “It was a long-distance thing for too long. He was based in LA and had to be there for auditions and filming, whereas I was always off on tour. And I need my men to be around and be with me.”

Harking back to a distant era, she added: “We didn’t have the internet or WhatsApp back in the late ’80s, all we had in those days was a fax or a phone or an answer machine. There wasn’t a lot of contact if you were in different countries and I found that difficult.”

Although, her faxes might have been the end point of their relationship, as she also revealed: “I used to spend a fortune telephoning him from hotels and sending 40-page faxes in the middle of the night. But boys aren’t that good at communicating back, so I’d send these 40 pages and he’d come back with maybe a one-word answer… It fizzled out soon after.”

Brad went on to marry Jennifer Aniston and then, famously, Angelina Jolie. Sinitta has had a ‘close’ relationship with Simon Cowell since 1983, and apparently have had an on-off relationship over the years that is now platonic, and the pair are godparents to each other’s children. Asked on IAC in 2011 who was the better lover, Brad or Simon, she said: “Who do you think?” and added before Pitt was “beautiful with the most amazing body.”

Later on, Sinitta was married to Andy Willner, but the couple split in 2010, after marrying in 2002. The couple have two children together.

Were there rumours of a Sinitta and Brad reunion at any time?

In 2016, amid news that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had split up, Sinitta appeared on Alan Carr’s New Year Specstacular, and she joked that he had been blowing up her phone once again. As per The Sun, Alan asked her: “Call me Cupid, but Brad Pitt is single again and you two used to date didn’t you?” Sinitta joked: “We did! We did. He has been calling and you know what I said? ‘Brad. Move on’.” To quote Cher Horowitz: As IF.

I’m a Celebrity… South Africa series 2 continues on ITV1 and ITVX, with I’m a Celebrity… Unpacked airing afterwards on ITV2 and ITVX, hosted by Sam Thompson and Kemi Rodgers.
