Man dead, woman in critical condition after collision in Brampton

One person is dead and another is in hospital with serious injuries after an SUV and a transport truck collided in Brampton.
A man is dead and a woman is fighting for her life in the hospital following a collision in Brampton on Tuesday afternoon.
Peel police said an SUV collided with a transport truck in the southbound lanes of Airport Road, just north of Williams Parkway, just before 3:30 p.m.
When officers and paramedics arrived, they located two occupants of the SUV, a male driver and a female passenger, suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Peel police media relations officer Const. Mandeep Khatra said both occupants had to be extracted from the vehicle.
The man was rushed to a trauma centre, where he was pronounced dead, Khatra said.
Meanwhile, the woman was airlifted to a trauma centre, and she remains in life-threatening condition.
“We would like to extend our deepest heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and all those that are impacted by this tragic incident,” he said.
The cause of the collision is unknown.

“Our major collision bureau investigators will look at every different avenue. We’ll use all different strategies to try to figure out what exactly happened,” Khatra said.
“Based on the witness accounts of people in the area, they mentioned that speed would likely be a factor in this collision.”
