A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in southwest Calgary on the weekend has died from his injuries.

It’s believed the man had crossed 16th Avenue near Eighth Street S.W. at Tomkins Park on Sunday at about 8:20 p.m., but either fell or lay down on the road in front of a parked SUV, police said in a release.

Several minutes later, the vehicle’s driver returned, pulled out from his parking space and drove over the pedestrian.

The driver, a man in his 50s, remained at the scene and was not injured.

The identity of the man who died has not yet been determined, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police.

This marks the fifth pedestrian fatality on Calgary roads in 2026.
