Power outage impacting 2,770 homes in Kelowna Sunday

UPDATE 5:00 p.m.

Power has now been fully restored after two outages in Kelowna on Sunday.

The first incident affected 2,770 customers in an area stretching from near the Capri Centre to Southeast Kelowna. Lights came back on for those customers around 2:25 p.m.

The second outage affected 307 customers near Gordon Drive and Cameron Avenue. Power was restored to that area at 4:41 p.m.

FortisBC listed the cause of both incidents as unknown.

One power outage was restored in Kelowna on Sunday afternoon, but a new one popped up in the same general area.

UPDATE 3:03 p.m.

A new power outage has popped up near an earlier one in Kelowna.

While electricity has been restored to all 2,770 customers impacted by an earlier incident, another 307 customers are without power in an area near Gordon Drive and Cameron Avenue.

The original outage was first reported around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday. Lights were back on to 2,770 customers at 2:24 p.m.

The latest loss of power was reported at 2:35 p.m. FortisBC lists the cause as unknown. No estimated time of restoration is currently available.

Power was still out for 484 FortisBC customers in Kelowna on Sunday afternoon.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.

Power has been restored to most of FortisBC’s customers affected by an outage in Kelowna.

The outage stretched from just south of the Capri Centre to near Myra Canyon in a pie-shaped wedge.

FortisBC said that lights are back on for 2,286 customers. However, it was still working to restore electricity for 484 customers near Guisachan Village.

The cause remains unknown.

FortisBC hoped to have power restored fully by approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

ORIGINAL 12:40 p.m.

More than 2,700 homes are without power in Kelowna Sunday afternoon.

According to the FortisBC outage map, the widespread outage started just before 12:30 p.m. and has impacted 2,770 homes.

The outage impacts a large area south of Harvey Avenue, past K.L.O. Road and into Southeast Kelowna.

The cause of the outage is not known at this time, but Fortis expects to restore power by about 2:30 p.m.
